South Australians could be given the opportunity to vote on the extension of shopping hours under the first referendum in 30 years.

The Advertiser is reporting the public would vote on the issue at the election next March.

Sky News contributor Caleb Bond says he suspects the push won’t get up given "they have tried to deregulate shopping hours before” and the upper house “has said no”. “I suspect in this case what they will do is say no again to the possibility of taking this to a referendum,” he told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.
