South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached overnight in a second vote by the opposition-led parliament after his stunning, short-lived attempt to impose martial law.
South Korea n President Yoon Suk Yeol vows not to back down after being impeached for his stunning martial law call
South Korea's opposition parties initiated impeachment proceedings against Mr Yoon after he sent the country into chaos earlier in December by declaring martial law to protect the country against"threats by North Korea's communist forces" and “eliminate anti-state elements”. The impeachment motion was carried after 12 members of Mr Yoon's People Power Party joined the opposition parties as 204 lawmakers supported the motion and 85 opposed.
"You, the people, made it. You are writing a new history," he told the jubilant crowds braving sub-freezing temperatures.
