EXCLUSIVE: Gareth Southgate responds to Simon Jordan's criticism that 'he's not a winner'
The ex-Middlesbrough manager has built up a great relationship with the England fansResponding to Jim White's question about whether he fears his legacy at England will end up being a 'glorious failure', Southgate remarked: "I think that depends on how you define success.
"But when we played Belgium, we'd already qualified [for the knockout stages] and when we played them again it was for a third/fourth play-off where we had played only two days before [vs Croatia]. "We have of course analysed all of that and we have improved as we have gone on, we have improved since that World Cup in Russia to the Euros, I think we were able to change and be more on the front foot in this World Cup.
Responding to talkSPORT host and ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan's view that England won't triumph at Euro 2024 in Germany because the manager is 'not a winner', Southgate stated: "You can only answer that by winning.“These players have given this country some incredible nights over recent years and the appreciation for what they’ve done is important, because in the past there has been a lot of fear around playing for England.
