A look at who's doing great things in the Southland.

Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council 1444 officers recently welcomed seven new members to its ranks at the Father Perez Clubhouse in Chicago's Mt. Greenwood neighborhood.Nearly a dozen District 230 students recently earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs celebrate underrepresented students who excel on College Board assessments.

Recipients of the National African American Recognition Award included Andrew’s Jazmyn Nelson, Sandburg’s Mea Adolph, Neela Browne, Igbota Nkumeh and Justin Woods, and Stagg’s Yohali Bopeya, Saleemah Mahmoud and Samantha Plaia. The winners of the National Hispanic Recognition Award included Stagg’s Julia Berner, Alec Cabrera and Aliya Lika.More than 25 Bremen High School District 228 students have been awarded academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs.

At Bremen, Abraham Sanchez, Andrea Orozco, Ayleen Olvera, Isabel Cazares, Jose Hernandez, Luis Castro, Miguel Lopez, Ricardo Avila, Sebastian Bocanegra Macias and Yoseline De La Rosa received the academic honor of National Hispanic Recognition Award.At Tinley Park, Gionna Haines and Kaylah Forrest received the academic honor of National African American Recognition Award.

At Hillcrest, Alan Rodriguez, Karol Lopez and Natalia Perez received the NHRA and Isabella Marshall, Jakemah Calhoun, Jaylin Butler, JayQuan Ratliff and Olivia Alexander were honored with the NAARA. At Oak Forest High School, six students received the academic honor of NHRA. Those Bengals included Miguel Urquizo, Carmen Frausto, Maxwell Corral, Adian Rangel and Monica Venancio. Additionally, Julia Fierro received the NHRA along with the National Indigenous Award.The following men were installed into the Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council 1444 order during exemplification ceremonies.
