Multiple tourists caught the bug last year and there are fears of a second wave this summer
An alert has been issued in Spain after six people were struck down by dengue fever with fears of a second wave.
The national government in Spain said there is a "moderate" risk of tourists catching the fever if they head to the country this summer. Dengue fever is spread by mosquitoes and can be deadly to vulnerable people, reports Birmingham Live. Dengue fever symptoms usually start four to 10 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito, according to the NHS. These symptoms include a high temperature, severe headache, blotchy rash made up of flat or slightly raised spots and swollen glands.
One confirmed case among the German tourists in Ibiza was a 27-year-old woman who was in Ibiza last August with her partner and their 14-month-old daughter. All three had symptoms on August 31, but tests were only performed on the woman who was then diagnosed with dengue.
