🔴 Spain's Socialist prime minister has called a surprise snap summer election after local ballots this weekend left the conservative right poised to form an alliance with the far-right grahamkeeley reports

Vox seized on opposition to Catalan separatism after the 2017 failed independence referendum and dissatisfaction with corruption within the PP to gain a hold on power.

The PP won absolute majorities in two out of 12 regions and could form a majority with Vox’s support in another six. Alberto Núñez Feijóo, PP leader, has attempted to move his party to the political centre and kept Vox at arm’s length. Podemos, the far-left party which is the junior party in government, lost ground across Spain. The party was politically damaged by a sexual consent law that it pushed through parliament that was supposed to offer more protection to women.
