The Indigenous All-Stars fullback confirmed he was suffering from an 'underlying' shoulder issue but refused to reveal how it occurred as he and Jack Wighton apologised that their arrest had drawn attention away from the NRL's All-Star weekend.

The pair were caught wrestling with footage from the incident revealing three police officers handcuffed Mitchell as he screamed that his shoulder was in pain.

Wighton and Mitchell spent the night in a police cell and they will appear at Canberra’s magistrates court on February 22 facing multiple charges. The two State of Origin stars are very close friends and were out in Canberra celebrating Wighton’s 30th birthday where they got into a wrestle – which they claim was a “bit of fun” – at around 3:45am outside a nightclub.

Wighton and Mitchell are unable to speak freely about the incident due to the charges they face but have both apologised for the attention it drew away from the All-Stars match. “Anybody who knows me knows who Latrell Mitchell is. That’s all that matters. I really want people to know the game of Rugby League is what it is and I don’t want to take the focus away from this week, and what we are trying to achieve here and play this special game.”
