Their time fighting alongside each other, however, has led to a sincere friendship between the two – now, their latest team-up confirms that Spider-Man has one significant advantage that could help him defeat the famed X-Man.
Spider-Man Annual #1 – written by Stephanie Phillips and penciled by Alberto Foche Duarte – features the sinister witch Agatha Harkness plotting to create a new Darkhold with her recently acquired heart of Chthon. One step of her plan involves pitting Wolverine and Spider-Man, magically manipulating them into a confrontation. Spider-Man, however, overcomes the mind control, proving that his mental fortitude is stronger than Logan’s.
Agatha Harkness Is Spreading Chaos Through Marvel's 2023 Annuals Throughout their fight, Agatha's magic mind control pushes Wolverine and Spider-Man into each believing that they need the orb, and that they should kill whoever got in their way. Their competition starts out as a squabble and immediately escalates into a full on brawl. Peter then realizes that it is completely unlike him to want to kill someone, let alone a close friend.
While Wolverine won the fight with Spider-Man and retreated to Agatha’s ship with the orb in hand, Peter’s impressive willpower proved to be a quality that not even Logan possessed. Peter was able to overcome the mind control because of his strong sense of self and responsibility – he knows that he could never consciously allow himself to fall into greed and sadism.
