Police alleged the scammers target older Chinese women by exploiting cultural fears and convincing them that their families are at risk of drawing in spirits, or at risk of great danger.
A "spiritual scam" is targeting elderly women with Asian-ethnic backgrounds in NSW, police have warned.
They then allegedly convince them to exchange luxury items or money for blessed items that would keep the spirits and/or danger away.Two reports have been filed to police in relation to the scam. The woman allegedly told the 76-year-old that her daughter will be seriously injured and her wealth must be blessed to prevent the injury.
