Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are already en route to Melbourne ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Newcastle at the MCG, and Australian fans should enjoy it now because the coach has said it would be unlikely to happen again if Spurs are playing in Europe next season.
Tottenham boarded a plane to Australia for a post-season friendly against Newcastle just hours after their final game of the Premier League campaign.
Guglielmo Vicario shouted “let’s go” as the players boarded the jet while James Maddison was pictured with his hands full of luggage. “Our situation is a bit different from Newcastle’s,” said Postecoglou, when asked about Trippier’s comments. “They’ve had a European season, Champions League, it’s been a big season. We haven’t. It’s no secret part of this is exposure but also revenue for us.
