Sri Lanka parliament has now started the process to elect the country’s new leader after former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa officially resigned.
Nominations for candidates have opened and will close on Tuesday before Wednesday electing a new president.
There are concerns former prime minister and interim President Ranil Wickremesinghe will apply to become a contender for the job. It’s expected there’ll be more protests if Mr Wickremesinghe were to run for the position and could see them get worse if he wins the race to become the leader of Sri Lanka.
