St Catherine’s appoints ‘active Christian’ principal amid same-sex marriage row | jordsbaker

The school’s parents have been fighting an edict from the church’s synod that new heads sign a statement of faith that they believe marriage is between a man and a woman. St Catherine’s is in Waverley, which voted overwhelmingly for same-sex marriage in the 2017 postal vote.In a letter to the school community on Tuesday, the council chair Danusia Cameron said Poole was “a remarkable educator and visionary leader”. The letter said Poole was an active Christian.
Poole said she wanted to educate students in a “caring, positive and aspirational environment”. “Fundamental to my leadership is my commitment to the pastoral care of each student, the professional development of every member of staff and the wellbeing of the entire school community,” she said.and the Sydney Diocese to drop the marriage clause in the new principal’s contract. A survey of more than 80 per cent of St Catherine’s parents found four in five of them were opposed to the statement.
