St. Francis will be home in Friday’s quarterfinals against JSerra
The St. Francis boys basketball team had to find a way to make up for the size mismatch against a tough Heritage Christian team that boasted two players listed at 6-foot-10.
“We always play hard,” said St. Francis forward Brandin Dantzler. “I don’t care about the size of the player. It’s all about playing hard no matter what the height. Play your game.” DeJardin later snuck in under the Heritage Christian basket with less than six seconds left in the game with St. Francis still leading 52-49 to grab a rebound after a missed 3-pointer by Malik Moore and then a missed putback by Simmons.
McGrath scored 11 points, hitting three 3s while Goldberg scored nine points. They combined for 15 points in the first quarter which helped the Golden Knights race out to a 15-4 lead. Heritage Christian took its only lead at 26-25 early in the third before DeJardin quickly scored a layup. A short time later, he buried a 25-foot 3 to give the Golden Knights a 30-26 lead.
