Anakin pays off an old tease in Ahsoka.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Anakin Skywalker's appearance in Ahsoka episode 5 has paid off a promise made by Star Wars 19 years ago. After losing a lightsaber duel to Baylan Skoll, Ahsoka is greeted by her former master Anakin in the World Between Worlds. Declaring his intention to complete her training, Anakin ignites his familiar blue lightsaber and battles Ahsoka.
Known for his intense style of teaching, Anakin uses Ahsoka's distaste for the war to highlight the thin line between life and death. Anakin himself is dead by Ahsoka's point in the timeline, but he's able to interact with physical world like a living being. His lesson takes a dark turn as Ahsoka acknowledges the evil her master would become, prompting a change in Anakin's demeanor and methods.
Revenge Of The Sith's Marketing Teased Anakin With A Red Lightsaber In 2004, Lucasfilm released the official teaser poster for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The poster depicts Anakin Skywalker with a red lightsaber, his cape flowing into the features of Darth Vader's mask. Ahsoka episode 5's dark Anakin reference to Revenge of the Sith marketing isn't a first, as the payoff poster for the show features Ahsoka Tano in a pose modeled after her former master's.
The Prequels Never Fulfilled This Promise - But Now Ahsoka Has While Revenge of the Sith was about Anakin's fall to the dark side and featured his first deeds as a Sith Lord, he didn't acquire a red lightsaber until the events following the film. Turning his lightsaber blade red would make no logical sense in the film, as Obi-Wan needed to take it after their duel on Mustafar to later give to Luke in A New Hope.
