Experts need help counting the UK's dwindling insect population which has reduced as much as 64% in the last 20 years.
Drivers are being urged not to clean dead bugs and insects splattered on their car's licence plate this summer.
This methodology is based on the 'windscreen phenomenon', a term given to the observation that people tend to find fewer insects squashed on the windows of their cars compared to several decades ago. They are in decline due to loss and damage of habitats, climate change, pollution of rivers and streams, pesticide use, and development – with growing evidence these have caused significant drops in insect numbers in the UK and worldwide, the conservationists warned.
