Dems look to speed up clean energy adoption in four states after midterm gains

for millions of electric cars through the end of the decade after Democrats took both chambers of the state legislature from Republicans.

“The urgency of the climate crisis is here. We owe it to ourselves, our state, and our future generations to take bold actions now,” Moore, who will replace Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican, said at a campaign event this summer. The increasing emphasis on clean energy comes amid increasing concern about the reliability of the U.S. power system.across the United States and Canada, including Texas, were at increasing risk of blackout this winter, with coal and nuclear plant closures and limited natural gas capacity into the Northeast among their concerns.

With the construction of traditional coal and natural gas-fired power plants on the decline, many Republicans and energy companies are pushing back against Democratic efforts in favor of an approach to climate change that allows for the continued burning of fossil fuels. “Elected officials should be aware that affordability and reliability are primary concerns for their constituents,” said Michelle Bloodworth, president of America’s Power, a trade group representing coal interests. “There is certainly no lack of incentivizing renewable energy, but it will take more than money alone to solve the many issues surrounding the electric grid transition.”
