The airport will resume normal operations at 4 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
Pennsylvania State University Police and Public Safety said the passenger terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution, and the explosives devices team was on-site in a statement made around 6:30 p.m.
Late Friday night, police said the Hazardous Device Team was “able to render safe the suspicious contents of a checked bag” at the airport. Police previously said the baggage was supposed to be on a flight to Chicago. Police said there was no current threat, but did not provide additional details about what was found in the bag. While the baggage was being investigated, about 100 passengers were bussed from the airport to campus, where they were provided food and shelter, according to police.
Police have not announced any arrests connected to the baggage that forced the closure of the airport.
