Victorian asthma sufferers have been urged to take precautions after the state’s emergencies website forecast an increased risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma on Wednesday.
The more than 600,000 asthma sufferers in one of Australia's most populated states have been advised to take precautions to avoid “severe” symptoms caused by a dangerous weather phenomenon.

Picture: News Regional Media “When a large number of people develop asthma symptoms over a short period of time, related to high grass pollen and a certain type of thunderstorm, it is known as epidemic thunderstorm asthma.”
A moderate risk forecast indicates that one of the elements necessary for an event may be present, and there is a moderate chance of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event occurring.
