The FDNY is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in a Staten Island home on Friday afternoon.
At around 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 17, fire personnel responded to the four-alarm blaze at 88 Shotwell Avenue. Reports indicate that a stairwell collapsed in the building, causing firefighters to be trapped inside for a short period.Two houses sustained damage as a result of the fire, which was reportedly brought under control just before 3:30 p.m. Firefighters are continuing to work the scene at the time of publication.
Three firefighters suffered serious injuries as a result, and five more sustained minor injuries. The firefighters were all taken to Staten Island University Hospital for their various injuries.
