The Roosters have beaten the Sea Eagles 20-10 in a game largely overshadowed by the Manly rainbow jersey controversy
They’ve been branded “the Manly seven”. So what would those stay-away Sea Eagles have seen had they been at Brookvale on Thursday night?
It was not the thrashing the bookmakers predicted, the Roosters were hardly at their polished best against a Sea Eagles outfit punching well above its weight. But they move two points clear of Manly in eighth, though there are concerns Roosters prop Lindsay Collins’ season could be over after he suffered his second concussion in 15 days in a heavy collision with Morgan Boyle.
Penn said he wants to speak with the NRL about introducing an inclusion round next season, confident all of his players would participate. The Manly chair makes no apologies for the jersey, stressing a desire to promote inclusivity regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, gender or disability.“[The seven players] were somewhat frustrated that it had gone as far as it did without consultation.
“That’s the message they were very clear on, ‘Let’s work together’,” Penn said, adding the future of the players were not in jeopardy.
