In a dramatic moment, committee chair Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Democrat, said Mr Trump had to appear before it because “he is required to answer for his actions”. On Truth Social, his social media platform, he mocked the committee as a “bust” and Friday morning said they subpoenaed him for “publicity.” In a letter he further railed that the “two-tier system of Justice in the United States that cannot be allowed to continue.”
