The Dons are in the midst of their worst start to a league campaign since 1999 with no wins in five games so far and Steve Cowan reckons big changes are needed on the park.

They've been slaughtered for playing route one “hoofball”. But former Aberdeen striker Steve Cowan reckons it’s time his old side stopped taking a punt with their formation too.

Cowan insists it’s time Robson binned his three at the back game plan, adopted proper full-backs and allowed dangermen such as Leighton Clarkson and Bojan Miovski to work their magic safe in the knowledge they have protection behind them. At the other end he insists it’s time last season’s talisman Duk was dropped to the bench after a goalless run of 13 games stretching back to April.

“He’s not contributing an awful lot in terms of scoring or making goals. Bring in another midfielder to help the guys in the middle. Then you can get a better hold on the game as well as being harder to be beat. The first thing should be to defend properly then go and win the game. “For the second one the central defender Richard Jensen has to come out but if there’s a left back there then he can remain in his position in the middle. At times there were three or four Hearts players in the middle with only two Aberdeen defenders marking them because the wide players are away up the park.
