Steve Smith's recent batting resurgence fuels confidence in Marnus Labuschagne's place in the Australian Test team for the World Test Championship final. Meanwhile, Smith offers a less definitive outlook on Cooper Connolly's immediate prospects.
Steve Smith's recent return to form has given him confidence in backing Marnus Labuschagne for the World Test Championship final at Lord's. Smith, who scored four centuries in his last five Test matches, attributes his success to good fortune and improved batting rhythm. He believes Labuschagne, despite a recent dip in form, is capable of turning things around quickly and deserves to retain his place in the top three.
Smith, however, is less certain about Cooper Connolly's future in the Test team after the young all-rounder had a limited role on his debut. While Smith acknowledges Connolly's talent and potential, he points out that Australia has several other strong contenders for batting positions. Connolly's focus should be on continuing his development in both batting and bowling to remain in the mix for future series, particularly the 2027 tour of India. Smith also addressed his elbow injury, sustained during the Sri Lanka series, and expressed confidence in a quick recovery
