Steven Downs files notice of appeal for killing and sexual assault of Sophie Sergie
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Steven Downs filed a notice of his appeal Monday, October 24, with the Alaska Court of Appeals.
Steven Downs was convicted of killing and sexually assaulting Sophie Sergie at a dorm room at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1993. He was recently sentenced to 75 years in prison. On Monday, the lawyers who represented Downs during hi pre-trial hearings, at his trial and at sentencing filed a motion to withdraw as his attorneys. According to the Associated Press, the reason for withdrawing is Downs lacks funds to retain legal counsel for his appeals.Copyright 2022 KTVF. All rights reserved.
