Steven Naismith has urged his Hearts stars to use Scotland squad rejection and caps as motivation.
Steven Naismith was delighted to see Scotland seal their spot at Euro 2024 – and reckons it’ll be great news for Hearts.
“So for both to get their reward by making their debut is brilliant. Not only just their interviews about how proud they are, but the rest of the squad and how they’ve spoken about them, both shows they are valuable to the group. It is not just about the guys who get on the pitch. I’m delighted for them.
Naismith will be hopeful Clark is brim full of confidence after his 45 minutes against France, despite the 4-1 defeat, but he knows Hearts will need more than a goalie on top form if they are to cause an upset against Celtic on Sunday. The Jambos have lost their last nine games against the Scottish champions and have won just twice in 22 games stretching back nearly six years.
“We can’t be like that. We want to be better than that. In possession, you need to be comfortable when they press you and how you deal with it. In all the games last season against Celtic, we showed we can compete. It’s now about results. It’s small margins. That’s why you need to focus all the time. They can hurt you if you switch off. Within the game, we need to hurt them as much as they hurt us.
