Producer Darryl Frank reveals Steven Spielberg oversaw 'every aspect' of the HaloTheSeries through its long development. 'We treated it as though it was a legacy project of Steven's.'

Producer Darryl Frank reveals Steven Spielberg was very involved with the Halo TV show adaptation and oversaw"every aspect" of its development. Efforts to bring Bungie and 343 Industries' video game franchise to the screen began as far back as 2005 when Columbia Pictures began working on a film adaptation before languishing in development hell and going through a number of writers, directors and studios.

Halo is set in the far-flung future of the 26th century as humanity has succeeded in intergalactic travel and began colonizing other worlds, including the titular ring-shaped megastructures, which brings them into conflict with an alien threat known as the Covenant, requiring a team of genetically engineered supersoldiers known as the Spartans to fight them.

"We treated it as though it was a legacy project of Steven's. He godfathered it in terms of reading every script, helping choose showrunners, writers, director, cast, production design, and visual effects." Despite the various creative changes throughout the years, including multiple showrunners, Spielberg remained the one consistent element during the Halo TV show's development, having come on as an executive producer at its start via his Amblin Television production banner.

Given the scope and scale of the Halo TV show adaptation, it's understandable Spielberg would want to be as involved as possible in ensuring it properly captures the essence of the video games. With the show finally getting off the ground and having already earned a season 2 renewal ahead of its premiere, Spielberg's extended involvement appears to have paid off. The wait for Halo is nearly over as it premieres on Paramount+ on March 24.
