Stevie Nicks pens a tribute to her late 'Fleetwood Mac' bandmate Christine McVie: 'A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975, had passed away. I didn’t even know she was ill…until late Saturday night.'

That was the day that Nicks and singer-guitarist-then-boyfriend Lindsay Buckingham auditioned for, which formed in London in 1966 but had relocated to California. McVie, who was married to the band’s founding member and bassist John McVie at the time, joined the group in 1970.

Nicks quotes from the Haim song “Hallelujah,” which was written after the death of the band’s Alana Haim’s friend, who had died in a car accident., writing: “This is a day where my dear sweet friend Christine McVie has taken to flight.. and left us earthbound folks to listen with bated breath to the sounds of that “song bird”… reminding one and all that love is all around us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is gifted to us. Part of my heart has flown away today..
