Survivors, friends and family gathered for today's Alaska Run for Women in Anchorage to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer and women’s health.

Participants in the 1-mile walk/run leave the starting line in the 2023 Run For Women at UAA in Anchorage on Saturday.

“I feel like they don’t really have this puzzle figured out, because we’re still losing the same number of women every year,” she said. “They might live longer with it, but we’re still losing them. So there’s still a lot of work to be done. And my hope is that the resources for this will contribute to that.”

Mary Katzke, behind, gets a hug as Sharyl Toscano smiles under the starting arch before the start of the 2023 Alaska Run For Women at UAA. “It’s like a big hug every year,” she said. “I did my bib pick-up yesterday, and there’s so many families that have teams people who have passed. but also people who are in treatment or people who have recovered.”Olympic cross-country skier Rosie Brennan won the timed 5-mile run, cruising to a second straight win in the race.
