The application period for a guaranteed income program that will provide monthly payments of $1,000 for two years in Los Angeles County is set to close Monday evening.
The program, known as Breathe, will select 200 applicants who are former foster children to receive the payments over two years. The application period opened on June 20 and will close on July 3 at 11:59 p.m., according to the program's webpage.Last year, the same program selected 1,000 people to receive $1,000 every month for three years.
Other requirements include having a household income at or below 100% of the area median income for a single-person household or 120% for a household of two or more people. They also must have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic and may not be enrolled in another guaranteed income program.
The University of Pennsylvania and other research partners will conduct a randomized control study to measure the outcomes of the program. Participation in the study is not required to receive the monthly payments, but those who do participate will be asked to provide information periodically on different aspects of their overall health and well-being. They will receive a $30 gift card for every survey they complete.
