There are three days left for residents in Virginia to file their 2022 state income taxes to qualify for a tax rebate of up to $400.

Tax returns must be filed in the Old Dominion by the Nov. 1 extended deadline to qualify for the rebate, and the extension is six months after the regular May 1, 2023, deadline to file 2022 Virginia state income taxes. If a taxpayer filed at the regular deadline, no additional steps are required to get the rebate if eligible. The rebates will be worth up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for joint filers, according to the state.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that distribution of the tax rebate would begin on Wednesday for eligible taxpayers in the commonwealth. The distribution will be on a rolling basis over a three-week period, according to the state. "We’re excited to announce that tax rebates will begin to be distributed in the coming days," Youngkin said in a statement."As Virginians continue to face inflation and high prices as a direct result of policies out of Washington, D.C., these rebates are an important step going into the holiday season to help Virginians keep more of their hard-earned money for gas, groceries and essentials.

The payments from the tax rebate will be sent to taxpayers either via direct deposit or paper check, depending on how they received their refund.
