Chris Kenny has been schooled on the legal implications of the Voice to Parliament during a spirited discussion with fellow Sky News host, and former assistant attorney-general, Amanda Stoker

In an editorial for his Sky News show, Kenny said there were a lot of “furphies” designed to “create fear and alarm” about the proposed Voice to Parliament.Among the criticisms of the Voice called out by Kenny was the claim it will slow down the process of government.

Kenny put it to Stoker that the proposed wording of “make representations” had been carefully chosen for the constitutional amendment. The former senator said that what this meant was that if the government didn’t “take into account adequately and give the appropriate weight in the circumstances” to what representations the Voice has made – in the judgement of an external lawyer looking at it later – then the decision"can be set aside, sent back to be redone."
