Storm smashes Tom Price as wild weather continues across Western Australia

A flash storm in the Pilbara town of Tom Price uproots trees, damages fences and forces businesses and schools into lockdown.

Damaging wind gusts and severe thunderstorms have battered the Pilbara town of Tom Price, destroying fences, damaging roads and uprooting trees.The Bureau of Meteorology says the severe weather could continue into this weekend.Stormy weather continues to batter Western Australia, with residents of a Pilbara mining town the latest to bear the brunt.

"We had equipment, trees and branches flying about, bits from the roof and there was banging on the windows," she said. Shire of Ashburton councillor Matthew Lynch is based in Tom Price and witnessed the storm from his front window. "There's been some building damage, mainly to fencing and things like water ingress, but not too much," Cr Lynch said.Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Angeline Prasad said there had been an "outbreak" of tropical thunderstorms, and little respite was on the way.
