The worst of the storm system is expected to stay north of San Antonio, forecasters say.

Strong to severe storms with the potential for hail and even tornadoes will be possible late Sunday afternoon and evening for the northern Hill Country and parts of the Interstate 35 corridor, forecasters said.Strong to severe storms with the potential for hail and even tornadoes will be possible late this afternoon and evening for the northern Hill Country and parts of the Interstate 35 corridor, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service said it is tracking a weak disturbance in the atmosphere that is expected to combine with a dry line pushing in from the west and arrive this afternoon.Large hail will be the main risk, but an isolated tornado or damaging straight-line winds are possible, the weather service said.

"Right now, the storms should stay north of San Antonio, but we can’t rule out an isolated shower," said meteorologist Andrew Quigley."The best chances are up in Llano, Burnet and Burleson counties." The southern edge of the storm system is more likely to sweep through the Austin area than San Antonio, Quigley said.

"There’s a lot of disturbance in the atmosphere," he said."Large hail in excess of a quarter of an inch is the primary concern. We can’t rule out damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 miles per hour, and an isolated tornado."
