Severe weather warnings are in place for parts of Victoria and south-east New South Wales as rain continues to drench those regions. Meanwhile, storms are set to kick off again in south-east Queensland and northern NSW.
Wild weather is forecast along Australia's east coast with forecasters tipping heavy rain in parts of Victoria and over the New South Wales border with Queensland.Severe weather warnings are current for eastern Victoria and south-east New South Wales as wet weather and the threat of flash flooding continue
"The heavy rainfall associated with that severe weather warning may also lead to some flash flooding overnight," duty forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Sarah Scully said. The rainfall is expected to continue Tuesday afternoon and into the early hours of Wednesday morning. The other main area of concern is over the New South Wales Queensland border.
The first of the storms kicked off last night, with many Brisbane south-siders waking at 1:30am to the vivid lightning show. The Bureau recorded more than 100,000 lightning strikes, as well as wind gusts of 65 kilometres per hour and patches of heavy rain.Ms Scully said looking at the satellite imagery things are already firing up again."There's a few lightning strikes already."With the storms come the potential for damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
It is recommended people keep up-to-date with local warnings as thunderstorms are notoriously difficult to predict.
