Stralis to Test Hydrogen-Powered Plane Later This Year

Stralis Aircraft, based in Brisbane, is developing green hydrogen-powered aircraft with the aim of making air travel more affordable, environmentally friendly, and quieter. They are partnering with CQ University to develop the technology and plan to launch commercial flights between Brisbane and Gladstone in 2027. The company's test aircraft, Bonnie, is expected to take to the skies later this year.

Stralis plans to test its hydrogen-powered aeroplane in the sky later this year.Brisbane-based Stralis Aircraft and CQ University researchers are working to develop long-range hydrogen electric propulsion systems which they say could make aviation cheaper.

"We're also hoping that with the projected prices for hydrogen it could be cheaper, which makes it more cost-effective." "You can power a plane off a low temperature fuel cell … they're being used all over the place in cars and trucks," she said.Stralis used hydrogen to turn a plane's propeller while on the ground.Dr Whittlesea said the company planned to have its test aeroplane Bonnie in the skies later this year.
