In the new trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, Spock shares a drink with some familiar Klingons, finally solving a Discovery problem.
The trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 reveals that the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff is finally reverting to the much-loved Klingon design from Star Trek: The Next Generation's era. Strange New Worlds season 2 will premiere on June 15, 2023, with 10 episodes that will introduce Lt. James T. Kirk to the USS Enterprise and continue the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike and his crew.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Klingons were name-checked in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1, episode 7, "The Serene Squall", when the pirates that captured the Enterprise crew threatened to sell them off to the Federation's greatest 23rd-century enemy. However, because of the drastic design change introduced in Star Trek: Discovery, it was never clear exactly what type of Klingons would appear in SNW.
It's an ideal halfway house as a precedent for hybridized designs was set when three TOS era Klingons appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 2, episode 19, "Blood Oath", back in 1994. Back then, the difference in appearance between the smooth foreheads of TOS and the ridges of TNG was glossed over.
How Star Trek: Discovery Damaged The Klingons The Klingon design in Star Trek: Discovery rendered the species more feral and alien than they had ever been before. Although it had earlier been established that Klingons occasionally ate the hearts of their enemies, Discovery took this to the extreme by having them devour the flesh of the fallen Captain Philippa Georgiou .
This damaged the Klingons because it was hard to explain why this particular group of Klingons was so different from those that had been seen in Star Trek canon before and after the events of Star Trek: Discovery. However, it's clear that thanks to the Klingons regularly featuring in Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the return of Captain Worf in Star Trek: Picard, it's time to bring back proper Klingons.
