Summary Jonathan Byers was massively underserved by his limited screen time in Stranger Things season 4, but the upcoming season 5 promises to make up for that by giving the character a bigger role. Introduced way back in season 1, Jonathan is the older brother of Will and has been invested in the fight against the monsters in the Upside Down since Will got trapped there. He was an integral character in the early days of the show, but he’s been increasingly sidelined over the years.
The fact that these scenes involve both Jonathan and Steve suggests that season 5 will see the two bury the hatchet over their formerly contentious relationship. In season 1, Steve used to terrorize Jonathan. Since Steve was the popular jock with a legion of followers and Jonathan was the outcast with very few friends, they fit into the stereotypical high school bullying dynamic.
