At 51, he was in fairly good shape and mostly ate right, but he was incredibly stubborn when it came to his health. Even though Will had a strong history of heart disease in his family, he had convinced himself that he wasn’t like his sedentary family members – he was different. He thought he could beat the odds but he was wrong.

Once he finally agreed to go to the hospital, Will told the doctors that his blood pressure was always higher than average and insisted on being released. Hours later, he was back in the ER, with his right side numb, slurred speech, and a blockage in his brain. Will spent two weeks in the hospital, almost a year in intensive physical therapy, and spent a lot of time thinking about how being stubborn almost killed him.

So when Will heard about the American Heart Association’s CycleNation initiative, he knew this could be his way to help stubborn people all around him. CycleNation is a high-energy, stationary cycling event empowering people to be healthy while funding vital research to eradicate stroke. Join Will’s team, The Clot Crushers, as they choose to ride to support his recovery and his mission. Remember, being stubborn doesn’t prevent heart disease and stroke.
