As a “strong, fall-like storm system” heads toward the western Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound, winds with gusts up to 55 mph are expected to sweep through the Hillside and Turnagain Arm beginning Saturday night and peaking Sunday morning, National Weather Service forecastersThrough Turnagain Arm and Portage Valley, forecasters expect winds to reach 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph from late Saturday through Sunday morning.
The storm was also expected to bring up to 2 inches of rain to Portage Valley from Saturday night into Sunday. The combination of steady rain and winds could make driving difficult in the area, and high-profile vehicles were encouraged to use caution, the weather service said. The winds were expected to diminish through Sunday afternoon and evening, though conditions would likely stay breezy along Turnagain Arm into Monday morning, forecasters said.
