Victoria may see more severe weather warnings for wind later in the week, while emergency services continue to battle bushfires during Queensland heatwave

Strong winds are forecast to hit southern states again later this week as clean-up crews take advantage of a short reprieve after days of wild weather that left one woman dead and tens of thousands without power., firefighters are continuing to fight bushfires in the Scenic Rim in the state’s south-east. Residents near Kerry Road have been told to prepare to leave as hot and dry weather are creating “perfect” conditions for bushfires, the state firefighting service said.

“Bushwalkers should always prepare for the worst. Our emergency service personnel often put their own lives at risk during rescues, so it is frustrating when the situation could have been avoided,” inspector Darren Latham said.

The NSW SES said crews were expected to attend more than 150 incidents after the recent severe weather. About 1,000 incidents were recorded after damaging winds hit NSW yesterday, with Campbelltown and Camden the state’s worst hit areas.About 29 NSW SES members also travelled to Victoria to help their state counterparts after 4,900 Victorians called for assistance from 7pm Sunday to 10.30am Tuesday.
