Students will study the evolution of coronavirus vaccines and public health responses to COVID-19 in real-time next semester, as part of a new short course at the University of Sydney | natassiazc
Professor Jamie Triccas, who has been repurposing vaccine platforms to develop new COVID-19 candidates, designed the course to train science graduates to fight both today's pandemic and any future outbreaks.While most university courses are designed over time in line with rigorous academic approval processes, the graduate certificate has been pulled together within months by combining existing units across medicine and public health fields."Usually this wouldn’t happen.
"We might be talking to the students in August about one thing. In October we could be updating about a vaccine, new drugs on the market, public health interventions we’ve put in place, or how we’ve managed to stop it. Medical science teams have been examining the longevity of immune responses in those who have been infected, or researching vaccine development. Public health researchers have been looking at how COVID-19 has spread and its impact on communities.
