Premier Peter Malinauskas said vaccination clinics will remain open for an extended period of time at a cost of more than $600,000 after he was 'stunned' to learn they were earmarked for imminent closure.
"Today I announce that under my government we are now extending the operation of these vaccination clinics to be in place far longer," he said.
The Wayville vaccination clinic, due to close on May 31, will remain open until July 31, while Playford, Noarlunga and regional sites will stay until June 30 and pop-up clinics until May 31. "Similarly, we know that the fourth dose is going to become imminently available to approximately 200,000 odd South Australians who are eligible for it," Mr Malinauskas said. Keeping the vaccination clinics open longer than planned will cost $637,000 but Mr Malinauskas said it was a"small price to pay in the context of increasing vaccination and reducing hospitalisations".
"Which is why I was stunned to learn that these centres were set to close in the not too distant future."
