Lavender oil is made from Inglenook Farm and sold around the world
Purple lavender plants are most associated with the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean coastline. Many therefore travel abroad to visit lavender fields.
UK Essential Oils Ltd, based at the farm, source frankincense and myrrh resin from Somalia in East Africa and ship it all the way over to the essential oil distillery on Inglenook Farm where the essential oil is extracted. Lavender oil is extracted using steam from the small field of lavender at the front of the farm.
"We distil other people's lavender crop, other lavender farms - we harvest their crop and bring it down to us and use our distillery to extract the essential oils from their crop. But since then, it has been transformed into a lavender field which attracts visitors across the summer to take pictures and take in the smells. When asked why he started working at the business, Steve said: "Originally I was a researcher at John Moores University in Liverpool, which is where it all stemmed from.
"The distillery came with stables which we converted into artisan shops. The farmhouse that came with the farm turned into a café. That's how Inglenook Farm as a visitor attraction took shape."
