A man had to be driven to the hospital by his son after a driver of another car opened fire at them, police said.
BAY POINT — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a freeway shooting here that left one man hospitalized with gunshot wounds after his son , police said.
The Feb. 13 shooting occurred after the victim’s son rolled down their window and told the shooter he was a “stupid driver,” according to the CHP. It occurred around 9 p.m., near the Bailey Road exit on eastbound Highway 4. The victim was driving with his son in the car when they were cut off by a gray Dodge Charger. The victim’s son rolled down his window and yelled the profanity at the other driver. The driver of the Charger asked the son to repeat the comment, and he obliged, according to police.
That’s when bullets started striking the victims’ vehicle, and the driver — a 52-year-old man — realized he’d been shot. He pulled off the highway at Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch and the two switched seats so the son could drive his father to the hospital.The shooting occurred just a week after NBC Bay Area released a report documentingin Bay Area freeway shootings, which the TV station reported have more than doubled since 2019.
