Texans Angel White, Blakchyl stood out under an annular eclipse
Alongside the typical drinks sponsors and wristband scalpers, enterprising vendors of shiny eclipse glasses made a new addition to Barton Springs Road this year., perfectly aligned with Saturday of Austin City Limits Music Festival. Alongside Los Angeles-based Sudan Archives and Vancouver-hubbed Tegan & Sara, theteam handpicked a run of performances by Austin acts in Ben Kweller, Blakchyl, and Rattlesnake Milk. Dallas-launched Angel White’s cowboy R&B made a splash too.
“Sometimes I think that if I was light-skinned/ Then I would get into all the parties/ Win all the Grammys, make the boys happy,”. Mostly, though, “Milk Me” and “Freakalizer” burned out bullseyes. Accompanied by a multi-instrumentalist bassist and wielding her violin bow like a rapier, Sudan Archives staked an unmitigated claim on fame, pure and simple.
