The sudden death of a Perth truck driver exposed to potentially deadly chemicals while at work is the subject of a two-pronged police and WorkSafe investigation. The truckie — who The West Australian has chosen not to name — was found dead in the cab of his truck on Friday, August 16, near the Wheatbelt town of Pithara, about 240km north of Perth.

“The death is being treated as non-suspicious and coronial investigations squad are preparing a report for the Coroner,” a police spokeswoman said. “This is not being treated as a criminal matter.” The truck driver’s death has also been flagged with WorkSafe officials. “WorkSafe has been notified of this incident and has initiated an investigation into the circumstances with a view to ensuring compliance and preventing future incidents of a similar nature,” a spokesperson for the agency said.
