Will Smith has officially weighed in on the ReleaseTheAyerCut campaign, saying he 'absolutely would love' to see David Ayer's original version of the critically divisive SuicideSquad.
Will Smith says he'd love to see the Ayer Cut of 2016's Suicide Squad released. Smith portrayed Deadshot in the film, who teamed up with a group of supervillains, including Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and Boomerang, to take down a bigger threat under the watchful eye of Viola Davis' Amanda Waller and Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag.
The reasons for the pre-release edits came on the heels of critical reception to Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was also a massive hit commercially, but a critical disaster. This caused Warner Bros. to flinch when Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad was reportedly more akin to his darker, more violent sensibilities. The studio re-edited the film to be more like Fox's Deadpool , rather than the hard-edged take of Ayer's original cut.

With HBO Max making full use of its DC slate of projects, many believe it would make perfect sense to release Ayer's Cut at this point. James Gunn's follow up, The Suicide Squad, was released on the platform last year. It proved a theatrical dud, but a critical hit, spawning a very successful spinoff show in Peacemaker for HBO Max.
