He is the No. 140 overall player in Texas.Avant was the All-District 21-6A Offensive Player of the Year last season, helping Summer Creek advance to the Class 6A Division II regional semifinal for the third time in school history. In his junior season, Avant had 269 carries for 1,710 yards with 32 touchdowns. He also had 13 receptions for 180 yards.

For his career, he has 459 carries for 3,504 yards with 59 TDs and 25 receptions for 360 yards with one TD. Avant held 17 offers including Memphis, UCF, Tulsa, UNLV, Jackson State, and Colorado State. Tulsa went 5-7in 2022, finishing ninth in the American Athletic Conference. The Golden Hurricane hired Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson as head coach in December after firing Philip Montgomery following an eight-season tenure.
