Clarkson sparked widespread outrage when he described how he dreamed of the Duchess of Sussex being paraded through British towns and publicly shamed
He wrote: “I hate her. Not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level.
“At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”The Sun’s apology comes after the piece became the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s most complained-about article.
Ipso said the piece had received more than 17,500 complaints as of 9am on Tuesday – rising to 20,800 by 5pm. The column was published days after the release of the second volume of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix documentaryIn the six-part series, Meghan and Harry criticised how the Duchess in particular was treated by the British press.
During the fifth episode of the series, Meghan said: “I wasn’t just thrown to the wolves. I was fed to the wolves.”
