Mr Sunak departed London on Tuesday night and was due to spend Wednesday meeting with US business leaders and lawmakers, as well as military personnel. The Prime Minister’s spokesman said the UK and US economies pointed to new challenges posed by hostile states to natural disasters and said that the economic alliance between the two nations should be elevated “to the same status as our defence cooperation”.
